Egon Eiermann influenced postwar German architecture to an extent unrivalled by any other architect. Eiermann also created a number of successful furniture designs, including his famous drawing table stand, the SE 18 folding chair, and the E 10 rattan lounge chair, now known as the Eiermann chair. Among Eiermann's best-known buildings are the IBM headquarters in Stuttgart-Vaihingen, the Olivetti corporate center in Frankfurt am Main, the former high-rise office building for Members of the German Bundestag in Bonn, and the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ged chtniskirche in Berlin. Eiermann was also a highly respected educator and architectural innovator. During his tenure as a professor of architecture at the Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe, he influenced an entire generation of young architects. This volume considers his entire life's work.

Great collection of tips!

"Studio Anywhere" is a great guide for photographers who want to improve the quality of their images without needing a ton of expensive gear or a permanent studio location. I really enjoyed the book, the author is very specific about how he lit each example picture, even including screenshots of Lightroom settings of how he color graded the pictures and fixed problems.

The author covers many different scenarios: low-key portraits, bright and dark product shots, shooting with water, bright sky and dark night portraits... always in tight spots with minimal gear. Keep in mind the author really likes hard light, like rock-hard light from an unmodified speedlight. If you're a fan of soft, subtle lighting, you might not like all of his photos.

A few nitpicks: The author frequently refers to speedlights as "bare-bulb strobes". Speedlights have lenses and mirrors that enable their features, they are not bare-bulb strobes. I think he just means "bare flash", meaning no modifier was used. Also he makes a big deal about how superior Neutral Density filters are to High-Speed Sync modes on speedlights, but he compares the two unfairly to make ND filters sound wonderful and HSS sound terrible, using different exposure settings for the two tests. HSS costs about two stops of power, if you put a two-stop ND filter in front of your lens, you will also need an additional two stops of flash power. Anyway, I'm just saying ND filters are not some magical solution to flash sync problems, using them requires more flash power just like HSS does, and ND filters make it harder to change lenses, since you also have to change filters when you do, possibly requiring multiple filters for different size lenses, step-up rings, etc. HSS just works.

So, if you're looking for a collection of practical tips for using the world as your studio to take great pictures, "Studio Anywhere" is highly recommended!

The idea behind this book is great - you really don't "need" a studio.

However, I am a little disappointed how much the author relies on using "post" to make up for lack of lighting, when in many of examples it would have been easy/possible to add another flash. Obviously we'd all like to not have to carry around that little bit extra gear, but it just seems to go against the whole concept that we do 90% of our shots without a studio. We are not talking run and gun here, we're talking posed sittings, which may or may not have time pressures and baggage allowance issues.

On the whole the guidelines and ideas are great, but I do feel the heavy reliance on "Lightroom" to fix what we didn't get on set, is a little off-putting.

This book is really great if you're into hard light (and/or closed shadow looks)!! Or really into that Marc Jacobs print ad look or multi-color gel work. It has some great tips for the every man, for the poor man, for the photographer in a pinch, or the basement studio photographer. There was definitely all kinds of photography styles included, some which were softer and I really appreciated, but if you were looking for a book more about utilizing natural light, he tends to use flashes and explains in more detail the dramatic looks. It's worth keeping in my library although it's not my style, I really think the info is beneficial for the starving artists and follow him on instagram for more tips!

My choice of PfMP Exam Prep...

In preparation for taking the PfMP exam I tried pretty much everything out there regarding books, tools, etc... and found this one to be the one I used the most. My total prep time for this exam was only around 2-3 weeks - the combination of the online mock tests, material included in the book itself, and additional memory aides were a big factor in preparation for this exam(and passing) in the short time I had allotted. If I could only buy one, I would buy this one...

The single guide to pass PfMP!

I am ecstatic to share my view on this guide as it helped me to PfMP credential in so many different ways that I have not only passed the PfMP exam, but also I learned how to think always as a portfolio manager. Once one starts reading this book, I am sure experienced reader will immediately feel how this book can be of one's benefit both for learning portfolio management and passing the PfMP credential exam. This book's specific guideline along with 400 mock questions are really helpful to get an understanding of the PfMP exam. I would recommend this book is enough to get passed PfMP in addition to PMI's standard for portfolio guide. If Te Wu (the writer) would have arranged 400 mock questions that are included in the book as web-based interactive practice questions in addition to including those in the book, I would immediately rank this book 5 star!.

Terrific Book on PfMP Exam Prep!

This may not be the best written book, but it is the best on the market today on passing the PfMP Exam! Compared with the only other book on the market, the author has placed much emphasis on the following: a. Exam strategy and preparation; b. Portfolio management theories and frameworks; c. Examples and additional tools and techniques. In many ways, this book is more than an exam preparation guide for the reasons above. It serves as a good companion guide to Project Portfolio Professionals! I am also impressed that the author and his company offers a range of additional tools including online exams and an accelerated bootcamp. I just wish they are free (there is a free webinar), but at least the book offers some great coupons for those other products.

About the Author
G. Tyler Miller has written 62 textbooks for introductory courses in environmental science, basic ecology, energy, and environmental chemistry. Since 1975, Miller's books have been the most widely used textbooks for environmental science in the United States and throughout the world. They have been used by almost three million students and have been translated into eight languages. Miller has a professional background in chemistry, physics, and ecology. He has a PhD from the University of Virginia and has received two honorary doctoral degrees for his contributions to environmental education. He taught college for 20 years, developed one of the nation's first environmental studies programs, and developed an innovative interdisciplinary undergraduate science program before deciding to write environmental science textbooks full time in 1975. Currently, he is the president of Earth Education and Research, which is devoted to improving environmental education.

Scott Spoolman is a writer and textbook editor with more than 30 years of experience in educational publishing. He has worked with Tyler Miller since 2003 as a contributing author on editions of LIVING IN THE ENVIRONMENT, ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE, and SUSTAINING THE EARTH. With Norman Myers, he also coauthored ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS: A MODULAR APPROACH. Spoolman holds a master's degree in science journalism from the University of Minnesota. He has authored numerous articles in the fields of science, environmental engineering, politics, and business. He worked as an acquisitions editor on a series of college forestry textbooks. He has also worked as a consulting editor in the development of over 70 college and high school textbooks in fields of the natural and social sciences. In his free time, he enjoys exploring the forests and waters of his native Wisconsin along with his family-- his wife, environmental educator Gail Martinelli, and his children, Will and Katie.

Sustaining the Earth

1. I bought the book used for college course at a great $40 price with some cosmetic wear and tear and who cares - it was not bought as an art investment, just a text book.
2. Definitely a worthwhile book to read, however (and here comes the rub) authors Miller and Spoolman (I suspect Miller is the heavy weight of the two) occassionally depart from dispassionate science. They aer not impartial and have some very big axes to grind. Also, the writing style needs reflects their missionary zeal. It is not tight, concise, and antiseptic. Implicitly they are looking for converts.
3. An example (the cheap shot): they are happy to apply models of species origination, growth, evolution, decline, and ultimate extinction to the animal and plant kindom as a whole, BUT, they are squeamish in applying these frameworks DISPASSIONATELY to homo sapien. Good science is dispassionate and Miller and Spoolman are anything but.

The sender sent the book 2 or 3 hours after i ordered it, which was really impressive. The book also got to my house on the first day of possible delivery time when there was a 3 week window of when it might be delivered. The book was absolutely perfect. The examples provided in the book were easy to understand and applied to everyday life. It still reads like a text book but information is provided to help different types of learners, such as graphs, stories, facts, etc.
