A Must for Early Childhood Educators!

How wonderful to read a book about children's art! This book shows the process that children go through to develop art, which is the beginning of creativity, reading, and writing. Every educator should read this book.

Valuable reference for last 38 years!

I ordered this book 37 years ago when my daughter was a baby. I loved the children's art, and the text was fascinating. The colourful pages showed how children go through progressive, predictable stages in creating drawings and paintings.
The book gave enough perspective to understand the child's approach, and how to foster their artistic ability and not interfere or squash it.
The book has a great recipe for finger paint made with flour, water and food dye, which is cooked. We used this paint and allowed our baby daughter to sit on 4 foot square canvases and splash away. The resulting paintings are still bright on our walls. People love them and are astonished that a one year old created them.
I have given out the paint recipe countless times, and carefully loaned my book out to those I could count on to return it. I'm thrilled to find out they may still be available.
This book should be required reading for everyone who has anything to do with children: parents, grandparents and educators. If it was, we would have more creative people in the world. But it is NOT a chore to read - it is a delight.
I will be cooking paint again soon for my grand daughter.

Excellent Way To Understand Your Children's Art

This book is an incredible resource for teachers and parents of young children. If your children come home with copies of adult artwork, or, if you are teaching your young students to copy adult artwork, then you need to read this book and realize why it's important for them to explore a variety of materials and express themselves through those materials.
